About the event
There is a reason that art historians are able to learn to read Tarot so quickly! The Tarot is a visual language, packed with classical symbolism and imagery that spans from the early Renaissance to the Modern Era.
Whether you are a seasoned Tarot reader, or someone who has never held a Tarot deck before, tapping in to the visual symbolism of the deck will help enrich the stories that the cards impart to you as their wisdom lifts off the page and into your life.
Join master Tarot readers Catie Peiper and Julie Skaarup as they guide you through some of the most time-honored symbols illustrated on the Tarot deck, and how to read them in the context of a single card, or in the larger context of a spread of cards that creates a more complex tapestry of images and meaning. We’ll explore how these symbols have been translated by different artists throughout the history of the Tarot, from the 1440’s to present day, and you will leave with a worksheet that includes beautiful, full-color printouts of some of our favorite modern and historical Tarot cards pictured side by side.
The first two hours of this event will be a lecture-style workshop in which Catie and Julie will enthusiastically expound on upon their observations and expertise from their 15+ years of reading and studying the Tarot. The final hour of the workshop will be a practicum, with Catie and Julie guiding you and offering one-on-one support as you enjoy the opportunity to practice reading Tarot for yourself and others.
There will be a few sanitized practice decks available for students to use, but we encourage you to bring your own deck(s). Please also bring a journal or notebook to supplement note taking with the provided handout. Feel free to bring a snack or drink. Water and tea are provided in the studio. Chairs, meditation cushions and yoga mats are available for your comfort.
This workshop marks MoonHaven School of Magic’s return to the world of live classes in post-pandemic life! We are so excited to see all of you and enjoy some much-needed magical community as we dive in to this gorgeous, artistic, and soulful field of study.
All levels of students are welcome. Please reach out to us with any accessibility concerns or requests.
