School of Magic
Workshop Teacher & Hedge Witch
Available in Frederick, MD
Katie is a maker. She learned how to wind whistle from a friend in Elementary school and it was off to the magical races. She graduated from Hood College in 2012 with a B.A. in Art and Archeology with a concentration in Studio Arts, specifically the Ceramic Arts, a minor in Theatre Studies and a minor in Film Studies. Since then she's become a Company member with the Maryland Ensemble Theatre, taken courses on teaching children's yoga through ChildLight Yoga, taught the elderly basic hand-building skills, worked in various preschools in the area, and started a pottery studio in her basement. Her work is largely nature-based, incorporating leaves, flowers, tree bark and shells, as well as pretty much anything else she can find.
Recently, Katie has discovered that she is part Hedgewitch, part Kitchen witch. She loves to garden and forage, but then she takes what she finds and turns it into something new and usually edible! Be it orange-peel cut outs, tea infused ice cream or black walnut ink from the tree in her backyard, she is aware of the resources at her disposal and seeks to transform them into something functional and beautiful.
Katie is a Hufflepuff with a knack for finding things and prefers bare feet to shoes. Working primarily in the arts and theatre world, Katie has learned to craft on a budget or with improvised items. In ceramics, anything can be a tool and she thinks that holds true for magic as well. She adores fairy tales and stories in general and will talk your ear off when given the chance. She offers monthly crafting classes and can't wait to work with you!
