Our bodies are made of energy, and energy loves to be free! This means that our physical bodies need to be strong, loving containers to hold all of that vital life force within us. The more rested and cared-for the body is, the less our energy will dissipate and leave us depleted.
When you are feeling spread too thin, or if you anticipate a draining interaction, it can be helpful to give your physical body a little buffer to help it hold the life force inside you more effectively. Try out this oil ritual and sacred bath as a bedtime routine both before and/or after taxing events:
Warm up about ½-¾ cup of good quality oil. (See chart below to choose the appropriate oil for you.) Do this by boiling water, and placing the jar of oil into the hot water for a few minutes. Starting at the crown of your head, slowly apply the oil to your whole body. Be sure to give attention to the ears, and take extra time on the joints in slow, round strokes.
As you apply the oil, you are applying a layer of love and protection into your very skin. You might imagine this as a diffuse gold light slowly soaking into your body. Work the whole way down to your toes, giving each one your full attention. Then, wrap yourself up in an old towel or bathrobe, and perhaps enjoy a few minutes of relaxation or meditation.
As the oil is soaking in, fill your tub with warm water. Make sure the room is warm, perhaps using a space heater. Add bath bombs, bath salts, essential oils, flower petals, or anything else that helps transport you away from the ordinary world. This is sacred space.
Take a nice, long soak in the tub. The warm water will help the oil soak more deeply into the skin, while simultaneously washing away whatever the skin is ready to release. Be sure not to soap the skin! When the water starts to lose some heat, drain the tub and dry off, slip into your pajamas and enjoy a good night’s sleep. The golden glow of the oil’s loving energy will live in your skin all the next day. Repeat as needed!
