Workshop Teacher & Tarot Reader
Taylor loves stories. As an avid reader, he appreciates all kinds of stories, from fun fairy tales, to introspective sci-fi, to gripping realistic fiction. From a young age, Taylor began to appreciate the power of story beyond entertainment. Stories can teach important lessons, or touch on ideas that are difficult to grasp outside the context of metaphor. More than this though, stories are how we live our lives. The stories we tell ourselves create the world we inhabit, and so Taylor began to become aware of the many ways people use stories to affect real life: news media, recorded history, religious allegory.
If there is any "truth" to be found in human existence, Taylor thinks that it can be seen in the recurring themes of the stories humans tell each other. The archetypal heroes and villains, places, and events that show up again and again all over the world, throughout all human history. The mythologies of the world are as creative and diverse in their details as the cultures they sprang from; but strip away the details and you find the same basic stories and thematic structures. These symbols speak to us when we see them in story, even if we can't consciously recognize them.
More than anything, Taylor sees the Tarot as a storytelling tool; a collection of pictures that depict archetypal ideas that we all can relate to. The magic of the Tarot is the magic of human mind, our minds instinctively want to relate the images on the cards to ourselves (our lives, our beliefs, our situations). Thus by creating stories out of the Tarot we create stories about ourselves; stories that help to teach us important lessons and help us recognizes aspects about ourselves that may initially be hard for us to grasp or accept.
For the past decade, Taylor has been using the Tarot as a storytelling tool for self-improvement, a fun, intuitive way to turn a mirror upon ourselves and help us see certain events or beliefs from a new perspective. The Tarot helps Taylor to rewrite his personal story (to be active in the storytelling of his life), and he's excited to show you how to do the same!
